Mount Prospect Horse Agistment provides dedicated retirement placements for horses transitioning out of active work and requiring a calm, consistent, and low-stress environment.

Retirement care at Mount Prospect is a structured management approach focused on comfort, stability, and proactive seasonal support.
​
Each placement is individually monitored to maintain appropriate body condition, digestive health, and overall wellbeing throughout the year.
​
Retirement Agistment – $185 per horse, per week
​
Our Retirement Agistment is suited to horses entering a quieter phase of life and requiring structured daily oversight, tailored nutritional management, and long-term stability.

Inclusions

Two tailored hard feeds daily (adjusted for age, metabolism and dental requirements where applicable)

Daily provision of quality hay

Ongoing body condition monitoring with seasonal feed adjustments

Rug management to support comfort during temperature changes

Individual paddock placements with carefully selected, compatible companions (maximum 2–3 horses)

Daily paddock checks and routine health observation

Secure fencing with natural and constructed shelter

Clean spring-fed water via automatic trough systems

Coordination of farrier, dental and veterinary visits

24/7 on-site supervision

Over 40 years of hands-on equine experience guiding daily management decisions

Where additional or specialised feeds are required beyond our standard ration, these will be discussed individually and supplied at the owner’s expense.

Located near Daylesford and within practical proximity to Ballarat’s equine veterinary services, the facility balances peaceful surroundings with accessibility when required.

Additional Information

Farrier, dental, veterinary care, worming and supplements are additional costs.

A signed agistment agreement is required prior to arrival.

One month’s bond is payable before commencement.

​Placements are limited and carefully assessed to maintain herd balance and ensure suitability for long-term senior care.
