🌿 Feeding & Nutrition at Mount Prospect Horse Agistment

At Mount Prospect Horse Agistment, nutrition is a structured and carefully managed part of our care model. Feeding programs are tailored to each horse’s age, body condition, workload, dental status, and overall health requirements.

Our approach is fibre-based and individually balanced — not one-size-fits-all.
Balanced, Practical Nutrition

Feeding programs may include a combination of:

• Quality fibre sources and hay
• Lucerne and chaff
• Micronised or whole grains where appropriate
• Vitamin and mineral supplementation as required

Grains are used thoughtfully and in appropriate quantities, ensuring energy needs are met without unnecessary metabolic stress.
Individual Assessment & Adjustment
Each horse is assessed regularly for:

• Body condition
• Weight changes
• Muscle tone
• Behaviour and energy levels
• Seasonal requirements

Feeding is adjusted accordingly to maintain stable condition and overall wellbeing.

Senior & Specialised Support

For horses with dental limitations or specific health conditions, feed consistency and preparation are modified to ensure safe and adequate intake.

Soaked feeds, altered fibre sources, and carefully measured rations are implemented where required.

Where a horse requires specialised feeds outside of our standard feeding program, additional costs for those specific products will be discussed with and charged to the owner accordingly.
Seasonal Consistency
All horses receive:
• Twice-daily tailored hard feeds
• Reliable access to quality hay
• Adjustments aligned with pasture availability and climate conditions
Nutrition remains consistent regardless of seasonal variability.

A Practical, Welfare-Focused Approach

At Mount Prospect Horse Agistment, feeding is guided by experience, observation, and practical equine management — with the aim of maintaining steady condition, calm energy, and long-term health.
